This inaugural ceremony starts with the unveiling of a plaque on the HQ of Beresford, Castaños and Blake before the battle of Albuera. As part of the 4th Division, supported by the Loyal Lusitanian Legion, the Fusilier Brigade under Lt. Col. Myers confronted the numerically stronger French Corps of Werle. Pounded by French artillery, after a half hour musketry duel, the Fusiliers charged and broke the French. 50% of the Brigade were killed or wounded and Myers was killed, to be buried at Valverde.
The traditional ceremony will be held at the British Cemetery at Elvas on Wednesday, 14 May, starting at 10.45. Eucharist will be celebrated before the Ceremony in the Chapel by the Rev. Fran Le Blanc at 09.45. Dress for gentlemen is suit or blazer with tie and medals. After the ceremony, the Chapel and Museum will be open to visitors.
